A helping hand to cut through red tape and reduce restrictions on York business owners is being offered by industry experts specialising in rules and regulation.
Three organisations have combined to host the free event on Monday 18th April 2016.  The region’s business support hub How’s Business, The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and York St John University have united to bring a wide range of expertise and support to local firms struggling with the increasing red tape restricting their business growth.
The informal, drop-in style event is open to any local businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs.  Running for three hours from 3pm – 6 pm in the Holgate reception hall of the York St John University, the format will enable attendees to engage in one-to-one conversation with experts offering practical help.
Elizabeth Barker, an Enterprise Partner at How’s Business, the Local Enterprise Partnership support hub, said, “Feedback from our Pop-Up business events and from FSB findings shows that business owners in the region are frustrated that rules and regulations are impeding progress. People find it difficult to get answers from the regulatory bodies, which is slowing their business growth and development. On the other side of the coin, the Council aspires to be more accessible and transparent.  In order to marry the two, we have pulled together 14 experts in their respective fields to provide advice and support particularly focussed on offering tips for business owners in overcoming these statutory hurdles”.
The aim of the informal event is to make it easier for firms to find the answers they need to run a successful business quickly and easily, face to face. The panel of regulatory experts amassed for the afternoon includes, as well as independent tax, legal, data protection, health & safety specialists, the Heads of key City of York Council departments including Trading Standards, Licensing, Planning and Procurement.  A full list of the experts can be found online on the How’s Business website at www.howbusiness.org along with other resources for businesses in the region.
With refreshments and networking following from 6pm, after the Cut Through The Red Tape event, at 6.45pm in the Fountains Lecture Theatre there will be an opportunity for attendees to hear about the recent plans for York Central to become an Enterprise Zone. Neil Ferris, Director of City and Environmental Services will outline the potential impact of the announcement and how it will boost York businesses with the expectation of creating 7,000 new jobs and bringing in £1.1 billion to the region.
