An exhibition detailing the history of Bridge End Mill in Settle and the construction of its pioneering and award-winning community renewable energy powerhouse, Settle Hydro, opens on Saturday, October 12th.

Featuring material collated by volunteer, Josie Guthrie, the exhibition is displayed at The Folly Museum & Gallery, giving a fascinating insight into the Settle Hydro Scheme, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this autumn. It -also marks a new fundraising campaign to help secure the future of the community project.

Ann Harding, a founder of the Settle Hydro Scheme and member of the board of volunteers said: “We’ve pulled together some interesting history of Bridge End Mill, including a video interview of reminiscences from a former employee of Brassington Bros. & Corney, John Reid and footage of the Hydro’s construction filmed by local residents”.

“The exhibition will also detail how Settle Hydro was set up as a pioneering community project to produce clean electricity using a large Archimedes screw to power a generator.

Settle Hydro is run by a group of dedicated volunteers. As well as powering nearby homes, the scheme can sell excess power to the National Grid and in time will be able to fund local causes from that income.

The exhibition runs until the end of October.
